Moment of the Year

I’ve been going through all the pictures I took during 2015 … and this is my absolute favorite – my very own “photo of the year,” so to speak.

The moment was a special one … I was visiting a nesting ground in northeast Florida last summer … was watching this particular egret nest … the last fledgling had just left the nest, leaving the mother (I assume) still sitting there, watching as they flew away … and then the father (I assume) flew in and embraced her.

A lot of “assuming,” I realize, but the moment was still very touching nonetheless. I loved this photo so much I even entered it into the National Geographic Photo of the Year contest … didn’t win, of course – the winner was an amazing capture of a tornado … but this is still the “Moment of the Year” to me.
