Every single year, millions of people vacation where I live (coastal Florida) so where do I go for a little R & R? Why, the mountains, of course!
I just got back from a week-long trip to the Smoky Mountains National Park. I try to go there at least once a year – twice if I’m lucky (spring and autumn) – I’ve been there so many times it has become like a second home to me.
Camera in hand, I’m always on the lookout for wildlife and, of course, wildflowers.
I’ve managed to capture a lot of great shots over the years but in the past, I have never really had that great of luck when trying to capture photos of bears. But this year, I had one cross the road right in front of me! On the very first day!
A road doesn’t exactly make for an awe-inspiring photographic background (if I had PhotoShop I could change that but I don’t so I won’t) … so hey, I’ll take what I can get.
The rest of the week, however, was spent playing hide and seek with the bears throughout the forest. Merely catching glimpses here and there.
As for the wildflowers, in certain parts of the national park they were like Mother Nature’s carpet, completely covering the ground in yellows and purples and whites. So pretty! Photos just do not do it justice!
More to come …
